Mapping your System to unlock Growth

To you, my thinking partner

There’s a lot going on in our house this month — our 8-year-old is preparing for her First Holy Communion, our 16-year-old is in Cádiz learning Spanish, and my husband is away golfing (also in Spain).

On my first draft of this newsletter parts of Spain and Portugal had experienced a power outage due to a rare atmospheric phenomenon. It made me pause on what’s most important: my daughter was safe, had cash, and was still learning Spanish – no electricity needed. And my husband? Golf doesn’t need power either and he was enjoying himself.  Preparations for the Communion are well in hand and here’s hoping this fine weather continues.

Thought for today

I was inspired recently by Shi Heng Yi, a Shaolin Master, on The Diary of a CEO podcast. In his TEDx talk, he shares a powerful idea: each of us walks a unique path. Others may describe their journey or the view from the top of the mountain, but it’s only by walking your own path that you’ll discover what’s true for you.

In his talk he reviews the 5 hindrances each of us put in our own way which cloud judgement and hinder progress on our path

  • Sensual Desire: Craving pleasurable experiences through the senses — leading to distraction and loss of focus.

  • Ill Will: Feelings of hostility or resentment — “Why do they have more success than I do?”

  • Sloth & Torpor: Mental sluggishness — “What’s the point? It’s too much.”

  • Restlessness: Constant agitation — “I never have time to settle down and do the work.”

  • Skeptical Doubt: Indecision and fear — “Will I look silly? What will others think?”

Which of these might be getting in your way right now?

Insights & Inspiration

Helping New Teams Click Faster with Insights Discovery

When I recently worked with a newly formed team, Insights Discovery helped surface hidden dynamics from the start

Based on a simple, color-coded model of personality types, it gives people a clear, easy-to-understand view of their own and each other’s communication and working styles. By making these differences visible early on, teams can avoid misunderstandings, appreciate each other’s strengths, and create a smoother, more collaborative way of working from day one.

Insights from the exercise were

  • Each of the team knew their colour quickly and took their positions

  • Their reflections on why they chose a colour/ position were personal and supported by stories

  • Some chose positions to reflect their role now in the business

The objective of the exercise is to develop awareness of the importance, and necessity in a successful team, of multiple styles.

Seeing the Bigger Picture: Mapping the Systems That Shape Us

Often, clients come to me focused on a specific goal — but what holds them back are hidden patterns within their systems: family, teams, leadership history, or even long-standing assumptions.

Using visual constellations, we map these systems to reveal blind spots, dynamics, and breakthrough possibilities. This process never fails to surface new insight — and with insight comes the power to change.
